Safe business is good business
Manufacturing is a dangerous and physically challenging industry with many hazards across the workshop environment. Given the dangers, the most practical and efficient method for improving safety and the health of employees is through employee communication and engagement.
Workplace accidents are costly, preventable, and unacceptable in today's work environment. Chess Engineering is committed to an accident-free environment and to the goal of eliminating all workplace injuries and illnesses. This can only be achieved through continuous, systematic improvement of Chess Engineering’s safety management systems, by reducing hazards and by modifying unsafe behaviour. To this end, productivity is linked to accident and injury reduction.
Even the most minor injuries and near misses are recorded. Accident statistics are monitored & reviewed by the safety committee at monthly meetings. Causes are identified and appropriate action is taken to reduce or eliminate any identified hazard.
Chess takes occupational health and safety seriously and its safety systems and policies comply with all relevant legislation. Safety is everybody’s business – it’s second nature for its workshop staff to stop and think about the safety aspect of every function of the job before acting.
Chess Industries Chief Executive Officer, Steve Facer, believes a commitment to safety is a positive for everybody as it helps to prevent employee suffering, limits complications to workers generally, maximises morale and ultimately saves money.
Chess believes safety is not just about policies and procedures and complying with OH&S legislation; it’s about every aspect of an individual’s well-being and working to create a positive environment for all employees.
