Dewatering Trommel for Newcrest Cadia

TAILORED TO CUSTOMER NEEDS

NewsTrommelMass customisation taken to an extreme can position a firm as “trying to be all things to all people.” Previously, customers made purchase decisions based primarily on product price and/or quality. While these factors are still important, customers are adding other dimensions such as customisability or made-to-order delivery time. Companies that have the ability to deliver product customisation are leading the market as they are investing time in understanding their customer needs and developing solutions that are specific, which standard solutions do not address. The industry is now demanding “total flexibility” which is the ability to deliver high-quality product tailored to each customer at mass-production prices.

Chess Engineering recently delivered a project for mining client, Newcrest Cadia. The request involved the manufacture of a dewatering trommel to remove particles larger than 2mm from a 60L/s feed in an underground mine. A detailed client brief, with specific needs, required product customisation by the Chess team to successfully meet the client's requirements.

The second part of the job was to build a maintenance solution to remove the manual process of cleaning and de-pegging the trommel screen. A spray header was designed to attach to the outside splash guard which directs high pressure water to the moving trammel, automating cleaning of the screen at regular intervals. “Not only did regular cleaning lead to greater efficiencies, there was also significant labour savings achieved,” says Chris Peal, Chess Key Account Manager.

“Although the dewatering trommel has been around for hundreds of years, the improved separation efficiency of our wedge wire screen design is a new addition to the Australian market. It has been primarily designed for the separation of ore products such as gold or other mineral mining with particles ranging 1mm to 5mm in size,” says Chris.

With a highly skilled workforce of in-house designers and engineers, Chess has the design experience and flexibility to meet your customer criteria, delivering total satisfaction.

A dedicated Chess project manager works hand in hand with the client, through sizing, design, manufacture and testing.
