Community And Corporate Social Responsibility

With manufacturing the major industry in the Bankstown local government area where Chess Engineering is located, there is both an acute shortage of skilled tradespeople and a high level of youth unemployment.

Chess has been working for some time with government agencies, industry and community groups to raise young people's awareness of the career opportunities available in the traditional trades.

Awareness programs include work experience placements for young people, school and community workshop tours and involvement in the Federal Government's Adopt a School program. We have also worked on other activities in conjunction with Canterbury Bankstown Career Connections (CBCC)

Chess staff also act in an advisory capacity to local TAFE colleges and to the Australian Industry Group's MARS initiative - or to give it its full title - Metals and engineering Apprentice Recruitment Strategy.

Adoption of these programs is designed to serve both industry and the community by broadening the experience of school students and guiding those with the right abilities and interest into appropriate employment.
